Brake Lathe Machine Repair From the Team That Started With Lathes

Before we were RV Service Tech Center, we were Brake Lathe Service Tech — working on rotors and lathes for shops across Los Angeles. Brake lathes are still the machine we know best.

A lathe that cuts badly is costly twice: once in the rotor you ruin, and again when the car comes back pulsing. Our brake lathe machine service finds the real cause — bearings, arbor, feed, adapters or setup — fixes it at your shop, and proves it with a test cut before we leave.

What we fix

Common Brake Lathe Problems We Repair

Chatter & Vibration Marks

Rough, patterned finish on the rotor. Usually worn bearings, a loose silencer setup or play in the cross slide.

Uneven or Tapered Cuts

One face cuts deeper than the other, or thickness varies across the rotor. We check alignment, tool holders and slides.

Arbor Runout

A bent or worn arbor puts runout into every rotor you cut. We measure it and repair or replace.

Feed Won’t Advance

Cross feed or spindle feed that stops, slips or changes speed mid-cut. Feed clutch, gears and shafts.

Motor, Belts & Noise

Lathe won’t start, bogs down under load, or grinds and whines. Motor, belts, pulleys and switches.

Worn Adapters & Tooling

Cones, bells, spacers and silencers that no longer center the rotor. We inspect the set and replace what’s worn.

Maintenance

Brake Lathe Service Before It Breaks

Most lathe failures give warning signs first: a finish that’s slowly getting rougher, a new noise, a feed that hesitates. A scheduled brake lathe service catches that wear while it’s still a small repair.

Our service visit covers lubrication, bearing and arbor checks, feed adjustment, adapter inspection and a test cut. Busy shops usually schedule it once or twice a year.

FAQs

Brake Lathe Repair Questions

Still unsure? Call us at +1 (805) 285-1878.

Do you offer brake lathe service near me?

We provide on-site brake lathe repair and service across Los Angeles County and Ventura County, from Simi Valley and the San Fernando Valley to Long Beach. Call with your location and we’ll confirm.

Do you repair Ammco brake lathes?

Yes. Ammco bench lathes are the machine we service most, including the Ammco 4000 series. We’re an independent service provider, not affiliated with Ammco.

What causes chatter marks when cutting rotors?

The most common causes are worn spindle bearings, a missing or loose silencer, play in the cross slide, or dull tool bits. If new bits and a silencer don’t fix it, the lathe needs service.

How much does brake lathe repair cost?

It depends on the fault and the parts. We diagnose first and explain the repair and the cost before starting any work.

Is it worth repairing an old brake lathe?

Usually yes. Well-built bench lathes last decades with bearing and feed service, and a repair costs a fraction of a new machine. We’ll tell you honestly if yours isn’t worth it.

Do you service on-car brake lathes?

Yes. We service both bench and on-car lathes, including Pro-Cut units.
