Every air compressor repair starts with a full inspection. A compressor that stops working almost always has one of three causes: an electrical problem, a valve that has failed, or a tank full of water that was never drained. Replacing parts without finding which one it is just brings the problem back.

Valves are the most common failure we find. A damaged valve can keep a compressor from starting, from building pressure or from shutting off.

Motor struggles or trips the breaker when it tries to restart, or air keeps hissing long after it shuts off.

Air leaking back from the tank into the pump, pressure dropping on its own, or a compressor that won’t restart under load.
Regulator Repair

Water in the Tank Is Damaging Your Compressor and Your Tools
Every compressor makes water. When the tank isn’t drained at the end of the day, that water builds up, rusts the tank from the inside and gets pushed down the lines into your impact guns, ratchets and tire equipment.
It’s one of the most common causes of compressor damage we find, and one of the easiest to prevent. Drain the tank daily. If the drain valve is stuck, rusted or leaking, we replace it — or install an automatic drain so it happens on its own.

Air Compressor Maintenance Every Few Months
A compressor that gets regular maintenance keeps working for years. One that doesn’t usually fails on the busiest day of the week. We recommend a maintenance visit every few months, depending on how hard the compressor works.

Why is my air compressor not working?
The most common causes are an electrical fault (motor, capacitor or pressure switch), a failed valve (unloader, check valve or regulator), or a tank full of water that was never drained. An inspection tells you which one it is.
Will a repair kit fix my compressor?
Sometimes. A hose repair kit or valve kit can fix a simple leak or a worn part. But if the real cause is electrical, a damaged tank or a failing pump, a kit won’t solve it and the problem comes back. If you’re not sure what failed, an inspection saves you from buying the wrong parts.
How often should an air compressor get maintenance?
Every few months for a shop compressor that runs daily. The tank should be drained every day, and a maintenance kit alone doesn’t replace a full check of the valves, electrical and leaks.
What happens if I don’t drain the tank?
Water builds up, rusts the tank from the inside and travels down the air lines into your tools. Over time it damages both the compressor and every air tool connected to it.
How do I know if the unloader or check valve is bad?
A short hiss when the compressor shuts off is normal. If the hiss keeps going, the motor struggles to restart, or the tank loses pressure on its own, one of those valves is likely failing.
